“ Help Rebuild Haiti” Campaign raises over $12,000

Sarnia Muslim Association is pleased to announce that “Help Rebulid Haiti” campaign has raised over $12000. The campaign that included collecting donations from the Muslim community, holding an Ethnic dinner on March 1st and placing donation boxes around Sarnia with various supporting business was a great success. The Ethnic dinner was a sold out event with over 440 people attending. While the money is still trickling in we’re projecting that this campaign will surpass the $12000 mark. The overwhelming support from Sarnia-Lambton community is very much appreciated.

The campaign proceeds will go towards Rayjon Share Care's rebuilding projects in Haiti. Some of the projects are:
Make work project to give short-term employment to a large number of the displaced people, send 60 sewing machines to Haiti for the development of a sewing factory and other projects that target education and agriculture.

Local Charity Fundraiser Postpond Till Fall 2010

Due to the urgent need of Haiti earthquake crisis, our charity dinner to support a local cause is postpond till Fall 2010. Fundraiser application will be posted here on our website and media will be notified as well.

Ethnic Dinner on March 1st for Haiti

The Sarnia Muslim Association will be hosting an Ethnic Fundraising dinner as a part of our campaign “Help Rebulid Haiti”**. The dinner is planned for Monday March 1 2010 and will take place at the Association’s location at 1609 London Line (Golden Mile). All proceeds from this campaign will go towards Rayjon Share Care Sarnia projects in Haiti.
The dinner tickets will be on sale shortly. Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children (5-12). Two sittings will be available at 5.00 and 6.30pm. Take out orders are also available with free delivery for four or more orders and all orders in the Chemical valley plants.

The devastating earthquake that hit the Caribbean nation of Haiti on Tuesday, 12 January 2010, is believed to be its worst quake in two centuries. The devastation and destruction that it caused was overwhelming to that poor nation. According to the Red Cross, up to 3,000,000 people have been affected.

Rayjon a well known local organization has been working in Haiti for 25 years. In response to the recent earthquake “Rayjon in Haiti adapted its intervention to filling gaps which resulted in a focus upon the children, children temporarily or permanently without parents or caregivers, many of whom are also recovering from physical injuries suffered in the earthquake, including broken bones, etc.” according to Rayjon’s website.

The dinner will be a buffet style with items from the Middle East and South Asian cuisine and will also feature a silent auction and door prizes.

Muslim Community in Sarnia Responds to the Earthquake in Haiti

The Muslim community in Sarnia is deeply saddened by the devastating earthquake in Haiti. This unfortunate nation has seen a great deal of natural disasters over the last few years. The Muslim community in Sarnia expresses its deepest sympathy for those who lost loved ones in this disaster. We also share the concern for those who are still looking for their loved ones and those survivors in need of food, shelter and medical help.
In response to this tremendous need for relief effort, Sarnia Muslim Association is planning a fund raising dinner for this cause. The proceeds from the dinner will go towards Rajon Share Care's projects in Haiti.
The Sarnia Muslim Association will be, also, collecting money from the Muslim community throughout January for the cause.

Ethnic Dinner Raises over $10,000 for Indonesia Earthquake Survivors

The November 9th fundraising dinner to benefit Oxfam Canada / Indonesia earthquake survivors was a great success. The event attracted over 320 people and generated a total sum of $10,662 for Oxfam relief efforts in Indonesia. A big thank you goes to the Sarnia community for their wonderful support. SMA would like to thank all our business sponsors, donors, the local media and our tireless volunteers who always make such event a huge success. May Allah Almighty bless you all!

According to Saudi Arabia, the day of Arafah is on Thursday, November 26th. So, we will be celebrating Eid-ul Adha on Friday, November 27th, 2009. The Eid prayer will start at 10:00 am and the takbeer will start at 9:30 am.

Sarnia Muslim Association is hosting an Ethnic Dinner for Indonesia Earthquake Survivors. The dinner is planned for Monday Nov 9.

According to the announcement of Hilal Committee of Metropolitan Toronto & Vicinity Area, Inshaallah, we will celebrate Eid-Ul Fitr on Sunday, September 20, 2009. The Eid prayer will start at 9:00 am and Takbeer starts at 8:30 am.

Arabic/Islamic Friday School starts on Oct.2nd 2009

SMA Arabic/Islamic Friday School will start insha-Allah on October 2nd. The classes will take place, as always, every Friday between 7:00 and 9:00p.m.
All children ages 4-18 yrs are encouraged to attend the weekly classes.
The basics of Arabic language, reading Qurán and Islamic studies are the main focus of our school. In addition to learning, the children engage in social interaction and play with their Muslim peers.

According to the Hilal Committee of Metropolitan Toronto the 1st of Ramadan 1430 was declared as Saturday 22nd August 2009.
Moon sighting for Eid-ul-Fitr will be conducted by the committee on Saturday September 19.
Sarnia Muslim Association wishes all a month full of blessings and good deeds.
Please join the rest of the community for our daily Taraweeh prayers, weekly Saturday potlucks and contribute to our Ramadan Food Drive to benefit the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Cheque Presentation to Big Sisters of sarnia Lambton

The May 4th fundraising dinner to benefit the Big Sisters of Sarnia Lambton was a great success. We would like to thank the Sarnia Lambton community for their support at our SOLDOUT event. The event attracted over 400 people and generated a total sum over $7000 for the benefiting organization. The proceeds will go to “Sister Circle and Waiting Club” projects of Big Sisters of Sarnia Lambton.

The cheque presentation to the Big Sisters of Sarnia Lambton will take place at the Sarnia Muslim Association’s location at 1609 London Line (Golden Mile) on Friday May 8 2008 at 2.15pm. Representatives from the organization will be on hand to brief the attendees on the projects they are working on and to address their plans to use the raised funds.

Volunteers, sponsors, donors, media and any interested members of the public are welcome to attend! Refreshments will be available.

Ethnic Dinner on May 4 to benefit Big Sisters of Sarnia Lambton

Sarnia Muslim Association will be hosting a Spring Ethnic Fundraising dinner to benefit Big Sisters of Sarnia Lambton. The dinner is planned for Monday, May 4 2009 and will take place at the Association’s location at 1609 London Line (Golden Mile) next to Global Donuts.

Dinner tickets are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children (ages 5-12). Two sittings will be available at 5.00 and 6.30pm. Take out orders are also available with free delivery for four or more and all orders in the Chemical Valley Plants. Dinner tickets will go on sale shortly.

“Sister Circle and Waiting Club” was selected from among a number of projects submitted by 7 local and regional charities to benefit from our Ethnic Spring Dinner. According to Kathy Alexander, Executive Director of Big Sisters Sarnia Lambton, over 200 girls benefit each year from “Sister Circle and Waiting Club. ”

]]> “The agency organizes monthly group activities for our matched Big and Little Sisters and the Little Sisters on our waiting list to attend. Sister Circle provides an opportunity for matches to feel connected to the Big Sister community. Various activities include arts and crafts, sports, tours and educational workshops. These events are available at no cost to those who attend. Proceeds from this event will help to ensure continued excellent programs in the community of Lambton County,” she added.
