Verbs
Here are a few more words you can add to your Arabic Vocabulary: Verbs. Make sure you memorize these words and learn how to read, write and pronounce these. These are the basic building blocks of Arabic. As you will see in the coming lessons, these same verbs are used in various forms in creating sentences. The list below is what is called a root word, from which other verbs and even nouns can be formed. In Arabic, the root words are in the past tense form, as in "He ate" or "He Wrote" not in the usual form or "To Eat" or "To Write".
أَخَذَ - Akhaza - He took
رَكِبَ - Rakiba - He rode
رَسَمَ - Rasama - He painted
نَزَلَ - Nazala - He descended
فَتَحَ - Fataha - He opened
رَجَعَ - Rajaa - He returned
رَفَعَ - Rafaa - He lifted or raised
سَمِعَ - Samiaa - He listened
وَقَعَ - Waqaa - He fell
وَعَدَ - Waada - He promised
وَقَفَ - Waqafa - He stood or stopped
جَلَسَ - Jalasa - He sat
كَشَفَ - Kashafa - He examined
لَمَسَ - Lamasa - He touched
مَسَكَ - Masaka - He caught
شَعَرَ - Shaara - He felt
رَبَحَ - Rabaha - He won
نَظَرَ - Nazara - He looked
رَبَطَ - Rabata - He tied
قَطَعَ - Qataa - He cut
وَصَلَ - Wasala - He arrived
فَصَلَ - Fasala - He separated
أَكَلَ - Akala - He ate
قَتَلَ - Qatala - He killed
رَحَلَ - Rahala - He went away
وَزَنَ - Wazana - He weighed
سَجَدَ - Sajada - He prostrated
غَسَلَ - Ghasala - He washed
مَلَكَ - Malaka - He owned
كَتَبَ - Kataba - He wrote
دَرَسَ - Darasa - He studied
صَدَقَ - Sadaqa - He told the truth
عَجَنَ - Ajana - He kneaded
حَلَبَ - Halaba - He milked
حَفَرَ - Hafara - He dug
ثَقَبَ - Saqaba - He drilled
تَرَكَ - Taraka - He left
حَمَلَ - Hamala - He carried
حَلُمَ - Haloma - He dreamed

فَهِمَ - Fahama - He understood
تَعِبَ - Taiba - He became tired
كَسَرَ - Kasara - He broke
ضَرَبَ - Daraba - He hit

دَفَعَ - Dafaa - He pushed
سَامَحَ - Samaha - He forgave
صَامَ - Saama - He fasted

بَدَأَ - Badaa - He started
شَرَحَ - Sharaha - He explained
قَرَأَ - Qaraa - He read
دَخَلَ - Dhakhala - He entered
